Stage 5

From Eberstedt via Bad Sulza to the mouth in Grossheringen

At the end of the tour there is enough time to relax and enjoy. After starting the 5th stage, you will reach the city center of Thuringian health and wine region Bad Sulza. With its gently rolling hills, the region is also affectionately known as the "Tuscany of the East". Here it´s all about brine and wine. Try the health-promoting brine in the pump hall in the spa garden or in the graduation resort "Louise". The Ilmtal cycle path ends in Großheringen, where the mounth is of the river Ilm into the river Saale. Enjoy a glass of the delicious Thuringian wine from the regional wineries with a great panorama of the vineyards. It´s up to you to return by train, to continue on the Saale Cycle Path or to refresh at the Toskana Therme Bad Sulza.
By the way!
You probably know Auerstedt as one of the two sites of Napoleon´s double battle with the Prussians between Jena and Auerstedt in 1806. From Bad Sulza there is a well-maintained cycle path to Auerstedt (4 kilometre one way). A sandstone memorial plaque and two of the four former "Napoleon lime trees" remind us of the battle. The former manor house, which was used as headquarters, is now the Hotel Resort Schloss Auerstedt and your place to be for quality time and country hollidays. The restaurant invites you with a fresh and traditional cuisine in a modern.
