Rennsteigbahn GmbH
Train Station Rennsteig | LRA Ilmkreis

Arrival and Departure

You get to the start of the Cycling Tour in Allzunah when getting off the train either at the train stations “Rennsteig” (2.5 km to Allzunah, train service only on weekends and bank holidays), “Oberhof” (20 km to Allzunah), “Gehlberg” (17 km) or “Ilmenau” (15 km). There is a bus going from Ilmenau to Frauenwald. Unfortunately, there is room for only two bikes on the bus. However, you may use the Radtransfer for having your bicycles transported from Ilmenau to Allzunah. On weekends and bank holidays the Erfurt Rail provides a direct connection to the Rennsteig station. Those who want to get on the cycling trail a bit further “downstream” can get off the train at “Kranichfeld”, “Bad Berka”, “Weimar”, “Oßmannstedt”, “Apolda” or “Bad Sulza”. At the end of the Cycle Route in Großheringen, there is also a railway station for the way back.

Please note: In Thuringia bicycles are transported free of charge in regional trains.

If you decide to come by car it is best to take the motorways A4 and A71 to the starting point of your choice.

Information for train travellers.
